Students in grade 8 who wish to attend a Catholic high school next year are required to take the Catholic high school placement test. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a condensed version of the test will be administered remotely online to students. Students who could not take the test in December must preregister on the website of the high school of their choice for this make-up placement test by January 2, 2021. Links to preregister can be found below. The test is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 9:00 a.m.
The test is free of charge. The online placement test is timed and is expected to take about 90 minutes. Extended time may be granted to students with special needs with appropriate documentation sent from the elementary school to the secondary school.
Students who do not have reliable internet or a device on which to take the remote assessment, as well as students with a documented need for accommodations beyond the extended time noted above, should reach out to the high school they plan on attending for other options by Monday, January 4, 2021.
The placement test helps Catholic secondary schools determine the most appropriate course work and academic path for meeting the needs of individual students. The condensed online version of the placement test will not be used to determine merit scholarships. The process for determining merit scholarships will be communicated at a later date. The placement test is only one of several tools used for academic placement. There are many variables that help determine whether or not students are accepted into the secondary school of their choice. Taking the placement test does not guarantee admission to a Catholic secondary school.
