Enrollment Process at Louisville Catholic Pre & Elementary Schools

Many Catholic preschools and elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville are ministries of a parish or group of parish communities; a few are not associated with a parish community. If you are not a member of a parish, or if you attend a parish that does not have a school, visit several schools and consider the needs of your child. You do not need to be a parishioner, or to be Catholic, to be accepted into a Catholic School. Overall, about twenty percent of students who attend Catholic schools are from other faith traditions.

School Visits

The first step in preschool or elementary enrollment is to visit the school. All schools have open house days and can arrange scheduled visits. Send an inquiry form to the school or schools you are interested in to find out open house opportunities or to schedule an appointment. All schools welcome your questions and interest!

Applications

Catholic Schools follow the state of Kentucky in terms of the age of admission. Children must be five years of age by August 1 of the current school year to enter kindergarten and six years of age by August 1 of the current year to enter first grade.

All children must have up-to-date immunizations, and all are required to have a physical examination. An eye exam is required for students aged 3 through 6 upon their initial admission to school.

Individual schools may have more specific and detailed admission requirements, including pre-kindergarten and kindergarten screening. Please contact the school for specific information.

New families should apply for admission to elementary schools in the fall, especially if you are seeking tuition assistance. Once notified of acceptance, families are eligible to complete the tuition assistance process, which opens on October 15. Tuition assistance forms are due to FACTS by the end of November. Tuition Assistance forms are filled out online at www.ceflou.org. Families are notified of tuition assistance awards by the Catholic Education Foundation by March 1.

For specific information about registration dates, tuition, and admission requirements, contact the principal at the Catholic elementary school where you plan to enroll your child.

Preschools in the Archdiocese differ as to the age of acceptance and whether they accept children any time during the year or at the beginning of a school year. Some schools require students to participate in a screening, and some do not. Please be in touch with the specific preschool to address these issues individually.
